Junior Championship Multy 0-16 Ballycomoyle 0-6
The sun broke through the clouds and shone down on a hard fought but well-earned victory, over Ballycomoyle, in round six of the Westmeath Junior Football Championship. The venue for the match was St Mary's grounds in Rochefortbridge which seemed like a natural choice for two teams from the north of the county. The weather was sunny, warm and dry which was enough to induce a hardy physical game with neither side giving an inch. The hits were hard and heavy with no quarter given. Multyfarnham had pushed into a four point lead early on with some good work by Ronan Wallace, Ian McGovern and the excellent Ciaran Madden. But Ballycomoyle were not going to lie down easy, bringing the game to Multy by dominating in the middle of the park and cleaning up the majority of kick outs. Ciaran McCabe, in goals, made an absolutely wonderful save when he dived low to his left to tip the ball around the corner from a penalty conceded by the Multy defence.
It was tight at half time with just the minimum between the sides. Multy slowly began to pull away in the second however with thanks to some fine shooting by Chris Cannon, Emmet Feerick and Johnny Orme. Enda Carter and Noel Kiernan worked hard at the coal face while Rory Boyce had the spring heels of a much younger man. A good performance by everyone involved, including the subs bench, will mean nothing without victory in the next match. Everyone is needed now to pull together. The next game is everything.
Underage
The Under 14's had a good start to their championship last Thursday with victory in a highly entertaining goal fest in the community park in Multyfarnham. Our young stars in the making scored 9-8 to St Malachy/ Ballinagores 7-4 in what was a real good game of attacking football. The team have a tough group though however nothing will daunt these young lads who will surely be starring for Multy for many years to come. Next out is against Tubberclair this Thursday, the usual contact will be made by text and everybody is asked to text back if available or not. Last week's team: Evan Hales, Lolly Monaghan, Adam Bates, Eric Molloy, Alan McDonnell, Jack Moran , Aaron Whelan, Andrew Hogan, Josh Lee, Noel Bardon, Jamie Coffey, Ciaran Bawle, Cian O'Fiach, Paul Mulligan, Brendan McCarthy, Bernard Cox, Eoin Walsh, Colin Pantry.
The club would also like to wish young Luke Nangle best wishes and a healthy recover as he is currently in hospital with an illness.
Cul Camps
The club would like to thank everybody who was involved with Kellogs Cul Camps which were held in Multyfarnham last week. A great time was had by all the children who were given a fun and enjoyable course in the basics of GAA football and hurling.
