Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

July 27, 2014
In what was our best performance so far this year, we defeated 13-man Milltown by 2-14 to 1-8 at a sun-splashed Cusack Park last Friday evening to move a step closer to securing a place in the knockout stages of the JFC.

Another win over Multyfarnham in the next round should guarantee us a quarter-final spot at the very least. Unfortunately, we'll be without Emmet Dalton for that game after he was one of three players to be issued with straight red cards in the second half.

The sides were level on two occasions in the first nine minutes before Milltown opened up a 0-5 to 0-2 lead. But three points in-a-row from David Fennell (two) and James Brennan restored parity.

Milltown scored the opening goal in the 22nd minute and added a quick point to put daylight between the teams for the first time. Two frees from James Finnegan and substitute John Brennan narrowed the gap before Milltown grabbed the last score of the half to lead by 1-7 to 0-7 at the break.

But within four minutes of the restart, we took the lead for the first time thanks to another John Brennan free and a Finnegan goal after a great build-up involving Emmet Dalton and Brennan.

It was all Kilbeggan after that as further scores from Fennell, James Brennan (two) and Dalton extended our lead to 1-12 to 1-7 by the 40th minute. Milltown were reduced to 14 men before a long-range John Brennan free went all the way to the net to leave us eight points clear, 2-12 to 1-7, after 46 minutes.

Our opponents registered their only score of the second period from a 50th minute free before David Marshall and James Brennan (free) added two late points either side of two more dismissals for each side.

Team: Shane Keenan; Johnny Dinnegan, Shaun Pidgeon, James Fox; Brendan McMahon, Warren Maher, David Marshall; Paddy Barry, David Fennell; Keith Gorry, Paul Maloney, James Finnegan; James Brennan, Fergal Fox, Emmet Dalton. Subs used: John Brennan, Nigel Scally, Tadhg O'Gorman, Jason O'Neill and Morgan Mealiffe.
