Westmeath to decide on Bealin's future

Paul Bealin's future as Westmeath football manager will be discussed at a county board meeting on Wednesday night week.

The meeting promises to be a lively affair with the former Dublin All-Ireland winning midfielder intent on seeing out his three years at the helm, despite failing to win a competitive game with the Lake County in his first season in charge.

Bealin has the backing of Westmeath chairman Sean Sheridan who recently said: "We agreed a three-year term with Paul Bealin and my clear understanding is that he will be ratified at the August meeting. The players are 100 per cent behind him. It has been a tough first season with a very difficult league campaign."

However, it's believed that many clubs are unhappy with the current regime and will oppose Bealin's reappointment.

The meeting is also expected to be updated on the Lake County's search for a successor to Brian Hanley as hurling manager, with outgoing coach Martin Fogarty, Raharney manager Johnny Greville and Clonkill boss Donal Franks - who opposed Hanley last year - all believed to be in the frame.
