July 24, 2014
Following their failure to field against Raharney in the last round of the senior hurling championship, St Oliver Plunkett's have been docked two points and handed a €500 fine.
The 2013 county finalists felt that it was too much of an ask on their players to play two championship matches in the space of 48hrs as they had played an defeated Crookedwood on Sunday week last then were due to play the Deelsiders on the Tuesday evening.
The Westmeath CCC handed out the punishment after they met last week, but the club have appealed the decision and look set to continue their fight.
Plunkett's chairman Michael Coyle told the Westmeath Topic: "We learned of the decision last Friday and had three days to appeal it, so we lodged our appeal on Sunday.
"We are appealing to the CCC; they heard the case and imposed the penalties. As of yet, we have received no reply from them."
