Westmeath Camogie notes
July 21, 2014
Liberty Insurance Premier Junior All Ireland Championship
Westmeath 0-09
Roscommon 2-08
Last Sunday 20th July, Westmeath hosted Roscommon in Clonkill in a very important fixture in the championship. Unfortunately, despite having a good run of play, Westmeath failed to capitalise on the home venue and Roscommon's goal scoring left the home side now struggling to qualify for the All-Ireland Semi-final. (See match report elsewhere in this paper).
With just one remaining fixture in the rounds of the competition, Westmeath will travel to Dublin seeking to qualify for the semi-finals.
3rd August Dublin v Westmeath.
Under 16 Championship
Kildare 0-06
Westmeath 2-06
The under 16 team played Kildare last Saturday 19th July in Maynooth. We know that this team is comprised of talented players from across the county and the result last Saturday certainly confirmed that. Kildare are always strong and difficult to defeat, however the Under 16 Westmeath team never gave up. The half time score was 0-04 to 0-02 in Westmeath's favour and Westmeath never faltered in the second half and goals from Katie Heffernan and Hannah Core secured Westmeath's win. Congratulations to the team and the very supportive mentors and parents.
Under 14 Inter-county Blitz.
Last Saturday 19th July, thirty-four under 14 players travelled to Lisnamult, Co. Roscommon to partake in an Inter-County competitive blitz. We therefore had two teams in the competition involving counties Roscommon, Offaly and Westmeath. Westmeath teams performed really well on the day and one of the teams reached the final where they were narrowly defeated by the Offaly representatives. Congratulations to the players and many thanks to those who mentored and helped in any way with the day.
