Maryland GAA Notes

July 17, 2014
Tom Lowry RIP
It is with extreme regret that we heard of the passing of Tom Lowry, Walderstown, who gave a lifetime of priceless service to the Maryland GAA club. Tom passed in the early hours of this morning following his long battle with illness.
A founding member and current President, he was the nearest thing to "Mr Maryland" you could ever meet.
A man steeped in the traditions of the Association, he gave freely of his time and energy in helping to put in place many of the facilities that the club now enjoys.
For many years at the 'park', while collecting the admission fee, his presence was always welcome and the chat and banter from him will be sadly missed.Until his recent illness there were very few Maryland matches at all levels that Tom wasn't there to lend his support and encouragement.
The people he met will retain the fondest memories of Tom Lowry, he truly was one of nature's gentlemen, and the world he has now departed has left us all sadder and poorer without his affable presence. Tom's humour, dry wit and down to earth straight talking style is what endeared him to many.
Tom took immense pride seeing many club players representing Westmeath at all levels over the years and indeed was heard to say"I can die happy now!" many times as numerous titles came Westmeath's way.
Tom got great happiness and satisfaction from Maryland's exploits in 2008 - winning the inaugural Celebrity Bainisteoir competition and then finally getting over the line to win the Westmeath Intermediate title.
Toms passing leaves a huge void in our club and community that we hope will be filled by others who are inspired by his selfless work and love of the club.
Our sincere condolences go to Tom's wife Maureen, children Ann, Mary, Trease, Catriona, TP, Tony, Kevin and all his extended family.
