GARRYCASTLE 1-14 MOATE ALL WHITES 0-9
Garrycastle made it two wins from two when they overcame Moate AW in Moate last Thursday evening. Garrycastle made a lively start and raced into a four point lead within 6 minutes, thanks to well taken points from Padraig Cosgrove, Paul Gunning and Robbie Shine (one from open play and one from a free). The home side responded with two points, one each from play and one from a free. Garrycastle continued to have the better of possession and a point from Johnny McGuire was quickly followed up with one from Paul Gunning. Moate AW had a point from another close range free tom reduce the gap. Johnny McGuire was replaced by Robbie Fox when he suffered a dead-leg. Moate reduced the gap with yet another point in the 20th minute. Garrycastle upped their performance again and points from Paul Gunning and Emmet Keena stretched the scoreline out to 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.
Moate registered the first point on the resumption but points from Robbie Shine and a converted 45 meter kick from Alex Gardiner pushed Garrycastle further ahead. Garrycastle were getting a good deal of possession but were finding it hard to turn their dominance into scores. The sides exchanged points, the Garrycastle point coming from Noel Galvin. The tie was effectively settled in a two minute spell about the 50th minute, when Ciaran O'Neil had the game's only goal, when his first effort was saved but he struck it home from the rebound. Substitute, Peadar Mulvihill, followed up quickly with a point. Moate AW hit over two very good points from distance. However, points from Ciaran O'Neill and Robbie Shine restored Garrycastle's advantage as time ran out. The home side did have the final score, a pointed free in added time.
This was a good performance from Garrycastle. The defence was solid and apart from a couple of opportunities were in control throughout. Gavin Ward, Ben Kennedy, John O'Shaughnessy were most prominent. Noel Galvin played steadily for the hour, while Paul Gunning and Robbie Shine were well assisted in attack by Alex Gardiner. Each of the substitutes made a valuable contribution.
GARRYCASTLE: Stephen McGuire, Gavin Ward, Anthony Larkin, Ben Kennedy, Ciaran O'Neill (1-1), John O'Shaughnessy, Sean Carey, Noel Galvin (0-1), Johnny McGuire (0-1), Brian McCormack, Alex Gardiner (0-1, 1 45mt), Padraig Cosgrove (0-1), Paul Gunning (0-3), Robbie Shine (0-4, 1f) and Emmet Keena (0-1).
SUB: Robbie Fox for J McGuire (inj, 20 min); Peadar Mulvihill (0-1) for Emmet Keena (36 min); Enda Keena for B McCormack (46 min).

Congrats to Davie O Neill who got married to Geri at the weekend from all the lads at Garrycastle GAA.
Sympathy
Tom Lowry R.I.P.
We would like to express our sympathy to the Lowry family from Maryland and to all the family and friends of the late Tom Lowry. Tom gave his life to Maryland GAA and was well liked around the county. The club president and founding member of Maryland GAA leaves a void in football in Westmeath.
