Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club notes
July 14, 2014
Senior hurling championship
Lough Lene Gaels trailed by ten points at the short whistle and by 13 at full time, as they fell victim to a powerful looking Clonkill outfit at Cusack Park on Sunday.
Micheal Daly, Dan Carty and Warren Williams were among the scorers, but it wasn't enough as the Gaels trailed 2-9 to 0-5 at the break, with Clonkill's Brendan Murtagh in lethal form.
A third Clonkill goal early in the second half effectively killed off the game as a contest, but there were some signs of improvement later on, with goals from Daragh McCormack and John Egan improving the scoreline somewhat.
However, Clonkill ran out comfortable 3-19 to 2-9 winners, and we hope for better when the Gaels take on county champions Castletown-Geoghegan in Cusack Park this Wednesday night (8.15pm).
Team: Brian Conaty; Derek Healy, Seamus Carroll, Brendan Doyle; Francis Kennedy, Derek McNicholas (0-1), James Boyle; Fergal Moran, Micheal Daly (0-1); John Egan (1-0), Mark McNicholas (0-4), Stephen Bardon; Warren Williams, Daragh McCormack (1-0), Dan Carty (0-2f). Subs: Michael Walsh for Egan (40), John Molloy for Bardon (47), Darragh Qamar for Boyle (48), Jack Coyle for Kennedy (55), Brian Caffrey for McCormack (59).

U16 Hurling League
On Monday of last week, Lough Lene Gaels welcomed Castlepollard U16s to Collinstown for the latest round of U16 Division 1 League. Lough Lene Gaels had a squad of 19 players in attendance with some key names unable to make the fixture on the evening.
With a large attendance of both Lough Lene Gaels and Castlepollard supporters a keen and very entertaining contest ensued. Some excellent match-ups in half-forwards, midfield and half-backline meant some great battles and renewals of old rivalries with one or two over-zealous exchanges.
After 60 enjoyable minutes the match concluded with victory for Castlepollard on a score-line: Lough Lene Gaels 0-9, Castlepollard 2-10.
For players and parents, please watch out for communications from mentors and trainers regarding training and challenge fixtures as Championship is fast approaching.
