All County League:
St Josephs 1-11 St Malachys 5-13
St Josephs made the short journey to Castletown Geoghegan on Sunday 13th April to take on St Malachys in Division 5 of the all county league. We came up against a team who when given the opportunity were very sharp in front of goals and indeed it was their sharpness in that regard that decided the issue. However, it was a much more rounded performance from St Josephs depite the loss and the lads should certainly take a lot of positives from the game. St Josephs played into the Kilbeggan end goals in the opening half and after 20 minutes of a cagey first half, we led by 0-4 to 0-3 and were in a better position than the home side at that point. However games change quickly and when Cathal Johnson saw his shot for goal rebound off the post in the 24th minute which would have put us four ahead, the ball was in our net less than a minute later as St Malachys led by 1-3 to 0-4. Two further points saw Malachys move quickly four ahead before Andrew Mc Cormack pegged back a point in the 28th minute to leave a goal between the sides. The final two minutes of the half proved disastrous for us as St Malachys grabbed two goals and a point to lead by 3-6 to 0-5 at half time. It was a position that hardly seemed credible just five minutes earlier. That burst of scores in the run up to half time proved decisive but St Josephs played well in the second half and certainly could have claimed more from the game. Niall Moran struck a fine goal while Brian Killian and Eddie Scally will wonder how their efforts didn't find the net.
