Despite losing all seven matches in Division One, Westmeath manager Paul Bealin is confident that they can get their Leinster SFC campaign off to a winning start next month.
The Midlanders will once again face Louth in the opening round of the provincial campaign and even though the league campaign ended with Westmeath making a swift return to Division Two, Bealin has seen enough to be confident that the players are there to make an impact in the Leinster championship.
"It won't be difficult to get morale right for Louth," stressed Bealin. "This is a great opportunity for us. Louth were relegated from Division 2 and they will be keen to get something from the season like ourselves.
"However, I know they went to Portlaoise last year and beat Laois by ten points," he added. "We have two or three challenge games planned and I need to sign off with the county board on them. We have a fantastic team with some fantastic footballers.
"If we get our attitude right - and work on things we learned from the league, I am confident of defeating Louth."
