ACFL Div. 1 Result

The first game of 2020 for the Shandonagh senior men in the ACFL division 1 competition took place last Sunday in Mullingar Shamrocks. Very windy and blustery weather made for extremely tough conditions for the team playing against the wind and indeed playing with the wind had its own issues as scores were hard got when gusts took the ball. Only 6 scores were registered in the first half with several wthis team definitely has potential forides from both teams and the half time score was Shandonagh 0:05, Mullingar Shamrocks 0:01.

The second half was the reverse of the first with Shamrocks enjoying the wind advantage and Shandonagh having to work very hard to get in near the 21 meter line to have any chance of scoring. The first few scores were added by Shamrocks before Shandonagh registered their only score of the second half with a point from a free. The deciding score of the first half was from the penalty spot after the Shamrocks forward was brought down in the box with the ball being dispatched into the left hand corner of the goals. Shamrocks then added a final point to their tally.

An entertaining game was delivered to the supporters who ventured out with the two teams well matched and moving very well. Shandonagh started some of the younger players who were very solid and full of running. Several substitutes in the second half for Shandonagh also emphasised that this is a strong panel and we look forward to 2020 despite this unlucky start to the league.

Final score was Shandonagh 0:06, Mullingar Shamrocks 1:06
