Clonkill Senior Hurlers
Full time Score Ballyhale 3:21 Clonkill 2:15
Our Senior Hurlers played the first round of the AIB Leinster Club Senior Championship on Sunday the 3rd of November.
We faced Ballyhale Shamrocks, who can only be described as the King Pins of Hurling.
The fog lifted very quickly, as the game got underway and so did the scoring.
Ballyhale had registered 3 points after 10 minutes and shortly after that Brendan Murtagh scored the first of his goals after a lovely passage of play between himself and Niall Mitchell.
The sides only remained level momentarily as Ballyhale continued to clock up scores.
At half time the score line was 2:09 Ballyhale, 1:05 Clonkill.
Clonkill put in a sterling performance and battled hard, Brendan Murtagh and Paddy Dowdall lead by example, Kelvin Reilly, Luke Loughlin 1pt, Luke Folan 1pt and Eoin Price tried hard throughout the game.
Anthony Price 1pt, Shane Power 1pt and Niall Dowdall 2pts also got their names on the score sheet,
Brendan Muztagh scored 2:09 and showed once again why he is one of the best players in the country.
Many thanks to the Manager Kevin O’Brien, Coaches Adrian O’Sullivan and P Kelly, Selectors Christy Murtagh and Fergal Fagan.
Thank you to Ollie Scally Club Chairperson, Declan Leonard Secretary, Tommy Keegan Treasurer and the other committee members that assisted this team so well and helped them along the way.
To the wives, girlfriends and partners of the management and of the Clonkill Hurling thank you for the sacrifices you have made throughout the year.
Thank you to our Supporters who never let us down
And finally a big thank you to the whole Senior Hurling Panel, they have given us hours of entertainment, while we have gone up and down the county supporting them, occasionally giving us the odd panic attack. You have done the Green and Gold so proud and it is a pleasure to support the team.
