U17 County Final

Hard luck to the u17s and their coaches who lost the county final last Sunday against St Martins. The game got off to a great start with Jack Cole getting the opening score of the game within the first minute.  The boys in red and white continued to impress throughout the first half with an excellent display of skill and teamwork. There was also some exceptional scores added to the scoreboard from team captain Dan Leech and Callum Cruise. Josh Gahan and Podge Quinn worked hard in the backline to ensure Coralstown/Kinnegad lead by three points as the first half came to a close.

The boys entered onto the field for the second with great determination and the drive for back to back victory was still in focus and indeed this title looked promising as Dan Leech added another three points to the scoreboard within minutes after the ball was thrown in. However as the second half proceeded and the clock ticked away St Martins had the “never give up” attitude and kept trying to shorten the score difference until eventually late in the second half they took the lead. Although our hard working young footballers kept trying to regain the lead, it just could not be done and unfortunately the game ended on a score line of Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-13 St Martins 2-14.

Although victory was not the outcome we as a club had hoped for on Sunday, the boys are to be commended for their commitment and effort that they put in at training throughout the year. We as a club are proud of footballing skills, teamwork and determination that was on display on the field on Sunday. One thing that can be taken from this unlucky day is that the future of the club looks promising as these talented young men continue to make their way up to senior level in the coming years.

Finally a  special mention to the coaches Ken, Billy, Ronnie, Damien, Michael, Paul and Darrach for their hard work and effort in preparing the u17s for the championship and getting to the county final.

Team and scorers on the day: S Martin, L Daly, J Gahan, L Leacy, M Leonard, P Quinn, K Powell, B McGrath, C Daly, R Bracken, C Murray (0-02), J Cole (0-01), J Macken, D Leech, (0-07), C Cruise(1-03), C McMahon.
