Under 10 Coughlan Cup Tournament
What a difference a day makes, especially with Irish weather…
Despite a damp squib Saturday , Castledaly GAA was covered in sunshine on Sunday for the Coughlan Cup tournament. Teams from Moate, Rosemount, Maryland Tang, St. Josephs Garrycastle and hosts Castledaly also brightened the October season as they battled it out to see who would win.
With qualifying games out of the way, the three final were set - after great effort and industry Rosemount pipped Moate in the Coughlan Cup Final, while Castledaly showed great character and determination to lift the Shield against a very strong Garrycastle side, while St Josephs were the eventual winners of The Silver Plate against a spirited Maryland Tang.
All teams gave a wonderful display of energy and excitement and entertainment, with their skills on display developed over the past years and before, under the guidance of their trainers and mentors, so the future looks bright for all teams involved.
Caulry were sadly unable to attend due to a sad bereavement and Tubberclaire had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
The success of the event always comes down to the participants, the players, their coaches and trainers, the parents and guardians, who give of their time and energies. The organisation of the event was a great success, with Richard Dolan and Paul Higgins at the helm, and a small army of helpers working in the refreshments area, traffic control and parking , our referees JP Casey Damien Stone Martin Seery Joe Sheerin, and groundskeepers who had the pitch in remarkable playable condition.
A special thanks to Tommy Coughlan and the Coughlan family, proud sponsors of the Coughlan Cup, and to Sean Corcoran and McDonald's Athlone , who have been great supporters and sponsors for many years.
As the evergreen Tommy Coughlan mentioned in his inspirational speech, this tournament has been a success for over 30 years, and that is down to the people who support it each year and the clubs and players who work so hard to give young players the best GAA experience they can. Thank you to all the clubs and everyone involved.
Castledaly Fit Club continues Monday Wednesday Friday with ladies’ classes at 7 and gents at 8pm under the expert guidance of Liam Lorcan and Paulette.
