We played our final championship game of the year on Saturday evening last in a windy
Moate. The winner stayed up while the other team was relegated to Junior. We were
fortunate on the day to stay up so we will be competing in the Intermediate Championship
again next year.
We started well, with Morgan Gavigan finding the net 6 minutes into the first half.
With a lot of possession we failed to get this onto the score board. Alan Mangan fired a ball
over the crossbar leaving the half time score of 1-01 to Tubberclair’s 0-08.
Within the first 10 minutes of the second half we managed to pop 4 points onto the
scoreboard. We made a substitution of Dean McDermott for Alan Mangan to keep things
alive. With less than 10 minutes to go, we lost Johnny Bermingham to a red card putting the
remaining 14 under pressure. Nevertheless, the lads thrived with Niall O’Brien scoring two
points back to back, leaving Malachys in front. Jack Gallagher came on for Neal Kirby and
made a difference with setting up scores. Dave Sheehin from a 45’ and David Lynch
managed to pop it over the blackspot in injury time making the final score, Malachys 1-12 to
Tubberclair’s 0-11.
We wish to thank Moate GAA for their facilities on Saturday evening. Also a word of
thanks to this year’s management team, led by Colm Geoghegan. Both Colm and his team
have put hours of hard work and dedication into this year and it proved on Saturday evening
when the lads came out and showed their true ability. Here’s to 2020!

Golden Boot
Seeing as this year’s season has come to a close, we can announce the winner of the Golden
Boot for 2019. This table is kept of all the scorers throughout the league and championship
with players such as Alan Mangan winning in previous years. This year, Neal Kirby has
scored the most, with a tally of 46 points (goals and points combined) with his allies Dean
McDermott and David Lynch coming joint second with 20 points each. This year we had 23
scorers altogether which is a massive achievement and all players should be proud of
themselves. Well done to Neal and all the lads. Table will be on Facebook this year.
Underage Fundraiser
The underage clubs within the village have come together to raise money for new goal posts
for the park. They have decided to run an All-Ireland Football Final score prediction sheet.
Winner receives €120 and it is €2 for one entry or 3 for €5.

All Ireland Ticket Winners

We held our annual draw for our club's allocation of All Ireland tickets in the clubhouse last week. This draw is confined to paid up members and Supporters Club members and the lucky winners drawn were Andrew Drake (Hurling tickets) and Adrian Murphy (Football tickets), we're sure both will enjoy the finals and we thank all who paid their membership for 2019.

Memorial Day for Mattie Corcoran

St. Malachys GFC are planning to pay tribute to one of the all time great clubmen we ever had in the late Martin (Mattie) Corcoran who passed away in 2017. The Corcoran family are still heavily involved with the club and it is planned to unveil a memorial to Mattie on Saturday 14th of September at the end of the Under 8's and 10's blitz that takes place in the Park that day. We will have further information over the coming weeks and it is also planned to launch our DVD , "St. Malachys, The Story So Far" which has been excellently put together by Olly Gallagher over the past few years and includes our 1981 SFC win, the 1991 Under 12 Final victory over Rosemount and several interviews with club members down through the years including the late Mattie.

Lilliput Gaels                       0-07

St. Lomans                            4-11

St. Lomans proved too strong in this playoff game to determine the semi final pairings for the premier championship in a game played in Ballinagore on Monday last. We were always chasing this game from an early stage as we struggled to win primary possession in the middle third of the field and two late goals gave our opponents a healthy 3-06 to 0-1 half time lead. In fairness to our lads they never threw in the towell in the second half and were unlucky not to eat further into the St. Lomans lead when we missed a few good goal chances. We now enter the shield competition but the team and management can hold their heads high after competing at the top level in under 16 football which is always of a very high standard..

Minor Football Championship
Lilliput Gaels 2-13 Shandonagh 2-14
We travelled to Shandonagh on Wednesday eveninglast  to take on Shandonagh in the second round of the championship. On a wet evening both sides served up a cracking game with just a goal seperating the sides at half time where the home side led on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-06. We looked to be destined for defeat until senior star, Morgan Gavigan, finished a great move with a fine goal to bring us back into the game but despite having some late chances of scores Shandonagh ran out one point winners. We send our best wishes to one of our club's most committed players, Conal Fagan, who recieved a shoulder injury during the game.
