Southern Gaels club notes

June 24, 2019

U8 Blitz, Cusack Park 18th June

Southern Gaels took part in the annual U8 blitz in Cusack Park. In front of a large attendance our two teams played against Delvin, Clonkill and Castlepollard. Both teams put in excellence performances and won all four matches. The level of ground striking and tackling on display was brilliant. Each team played one half of high hurling the standard of which was very high. These matches show that the effort put into training is paying dividends. Thanks to all of the parents for travelling to Mullingar.

Beko Bua Prize

Southern Gaels won €500 of equipment from O’Neills’ as part of the Leinster GAA Beko Bua initiative, which aims to improve short to medium term planning for clubs. The club submitted a 5 year development plan and were the lucky winners in the Bronze category draw for Westmeath.

SG U16 3-13 Fr Daltons 2-08

Our U16s got back to winning ways with a fantastic victory over our near rivals Fr Daltons. Every player played their role in an exceptional team performance. A very tight first half where the Gaels had to fight tooth and nail for every score opened up in the second half after Fr Daltons had a man sent off after 2 yellow cards. This freed up a lot of space and our lads were able to push on and win strongly. Special mention must go to Chulainn and Tom who had great scoring exploits. Getting 0-8 and 2-2 respectively. The lads now have the opportunity to push on to a league final which would be a just reward for all the hard work they have put in.

SG U14s League Final Fixture

The eagerly awaited U14 League Final has now been fixed for next Tuesday 2nd July in Cusack Park at 6.30pm. All support would be greatly appreciated for this great bunch of lads. Best of luck. Gaels Abú!

Midsummer Carnival Success

Thanks to all the players and parents who turned out for our first Fun Friday extravaganza last week on the Main Pitch in Cusack Park. A great night was had by all including hurling, hotdogs and ice cream. Thanks to all the mentors for organising the stations, to the parents on the hotdog stand and to the parents who looked after the Club Café. What a night, what a club! A defo for next year!
