While  acknowledging that their respected opposition Maryland were under strength missing key players , Castledaly squad players and management will be delighted with an impressive team performance full of fitness team work hard work and creativity, driven in the right direction.

MATCH EVENTS

Castledaly hit the ground running David Stone set up Paul Costello who sprinted onto an MJ Kelly pass into small square and punched passed the Maryland number 1.

From the kick out Paddy Holloway fielded well before setting up a tidy  point for Lorcan Dolan while from wing back David Stone again powered forward but  Lorcan Dolan saw his 5th minute shot skim narrowly wide.  

Kevin Stone showed a great turn of pace to give Aaron Nugent the extra step to point from play.  With Castledaly enjoying most of the play Maryland struck back with  point from play on 8 minutes.

 Paddy Holloway fielded cleanly the resulting kick out and exchanged passes with Cathal Dolan MJ Kelly to set Lorcan Dolan clear to point from play. 

In 10 minutes Castledaly defense were tested and Eanna Duffy was forced to save and clear through Shane Dolan and Fitzpatrick.  Working the ball steadily upheld on 12mins saw Aaron Nugent bear down on goal and neatly chip a goal from play. Maryland  point from free kick before

Paddy Holloway missed his follow up effort.  Cathal Dolan got involved and a swift passing move won the free kick for Lorcan Dolan to tip over.

As Castledaly went short and saw goalbound shots  saved from  Kevin Stone and Paddy Holloway .  

A resulting 45 yard free went wide from Kevin Stone  .  One of the best scores involved Lorcan Dolan Paul Costello David Stone interchange of passes at break neck speed before veteran Mj Kelly steadied himself to place his shot between the upright and  point from play .

Maryland added two points from frees

 Shane Fitzpatrick Emmett Heavin Shane Dolan were covering every blade of grass in their half as they steadily marshalled the Maryland front lines, with Liam Fitzpatrick leading strongly and adeptly intercepting dangers before they beared fruit.

Lorcan Dolan won and pointed his next free kick score to see Castledaly go into half time leading Castledaly  2-5(11)  Maryland  0-4(4).

 

 Maryland began the restart with point from play from corner forward but missed the follow up. Castledaly continued to press their lead advantage as Kevin Stone and Paul Costello combined before releasing the ball to Lorcan Dolan for the sharpshooter to point on the run.

Lorcan also added a free kick as David Stone was illegally halted by the opposition.  

Both teams were guilty of missed chances despite good play for home team again before Aaron Nugent David Stone set Lorcan Dolan for another from play Lorcan Dolan.

Starting last quarter of game Castledaly introduced fresh players with Darragh Kelly Damien Stone Jack Kearney in defence and Paul Kelly Colin Doyle Calvin Farrell in attack. 

David Stone gathered possession and beat his opposite number to see Pat Holloway speed through and chipped his pass into speedster Hugh Owens for youngster to neatly bypass the goalkeeper with thunderous shot to top right corner. 

Maryland replied with two points from free kicks before Kevin Stone replied on kind with a wonderful tight angled shot from out by sideline.  Castledaly supporters were delighted to see Paul Kelly return to team play after long absence through injury sustained last year championship and the evergreen wizard slotted into the squad with ease and his support play created and scored a fine fielded finish.  

The visiting team had chances saved by Eanna Duffy and rebound off the crossbar while Lorcan Dolan increased his tally further at the opposite end of pitch.   From the resulting kickout Liam Fitzpatrick rose highest to cleanly field and his accurate pass allowed his fellow fitness fiend  Lorcan Dolan to take control in his stride to bullet his shot for Castledaly 4th major score and finish

UNDER 10s

Well done to our under 10 team who made the short journey across the Shannon to Clann na Gael on Thursday. We played two matches against the hosts on a perfect evening for football. As always our players displayed great skill and passion for the jersey. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts Clann na Gael for the invitation.

 

 

Castledaly Fit Club continues each week Monday Wednesday Friday with ladies’ classes at 7 and gents at 8pm under the expert guidance of Liam Lorcan and Paulette.

 

Walking Track continues to appeal to club members in these lovely bright evening hours.  Track available to club members and it is always great to see people making use of this wonderful facility.

 

Club Membership rates are Adult 35 euro Under 18s & OAPs 15 euro  Family 60 euro and membership can be paid to club registrar Damien Stone. A registration day will be announced soon.

 

Underage Training continues for Under 6 (born 2013/14) and Under 8 (born 2011/12) boys and girls at Castledaly pitch Fridays at 6.30pm  (weather permitting). The emphasis in training is on fun and enjoying sport. New players are always welcome to attend.
