Laois’ win over Offaly last weekend guaranteed them another year in FL3, but with promotion still very much a possibility, manager John Sugrue is keen to push on.

The O’Moore County lie in second place in the division, heading into the last round where they will host Carlow on Sunday.

Westmeath are currently one point behind, but have an extra game in hand, following the postponement of their clash against Louth last weekend.

Sugrue is not just satisfied with retaining their place in FL3 and states in the Leinster Express that if the county has aspirations to go further, then they must try to get to a higher division.

“Remain in Division 3 is a basic goal at the start of the league campaign,” said Sugrue. “But, if we’re going to get cautious and try to stay in Division 3, it doesn’t augur well for us as a group.

“I think we’ve got to try and push on, but we really have to be at our best. Carlow are certainly a team that is going to challenge us strongly next weekend.”
