New Allianz Hurling League Division 1 format hasn't been kind to Westmeath

The two groups for the restructured 2020 Allianz Hurling League Division 1 were confirmed yesterday.

The new format is aimed at providing a more even standard than the existing Division 1A and Division 1B structure, but try telling that to newly-promoted Westmeath who have been drawn alongside All-Ireland champions Limerick, Tipperary, either Kilkenny or Cork, Waterford and Galway in a real Group of Death.

On the flip side, the Lake County will be guaranteed bumper crowds at their home games.

The other group will feature Wexford, Clare, the loser of the dead-rubber relegation playoff between Kilkenny and Cork, Dublin, Laois and Carlow.
