Scór na nÓg
Congratulations to our question time team of Erin Heeney, Darragh Seery, Peter and Philip Reynolds to retained their county title on Friday evening last in Streamstown with a fine victory in a highly competitive table quiz. Our team lead from the start but it was close until the final two rounds where we managed to open up a five point gap between ourselves and Southern Gaels who finished second. The team will now represent the county in the All Ireland Final in Castlebar in February. A special word of thanks to Shane Heraty and Oliver Reynolds who put in trojan work with the team over the last few months. On Sunday, a large number of Ballinagore and Westmeath gaels made the long journey to the National Opera House in Wexford to support the Westmeath acts that had qualified for the Leinster Final. Westmeath had acts in all seven competitions on Sunday, including our own Jemma Seery in the solo-singing competition. Only one other county had similar representation and that was the host county Wexford, so it is a credit to all involved in Westmeath Scór to reach this stage of competition. On the day, all the Westmeath acts performed brilliantly, including Jemma who gave a beautiful rendition of The Banks of Kilrea. However when the results were announced we were not so lucky as the only provincial winner from Westmeath on the day was St. Joseph's in the Rince Seit. In fact there was a sense of deja vu in both the solo-singing and recitation competitions as both were won for the second year running by the same competitors with the same song/recitation. We send our congratulations to St. Joseph's on their fine win and we wish them and our own table quiz team the very best of luck in the All Ireland finals in February.

It's that time of year again where the club takes part in the annual national club draw competition. This is a great initiative by the GAA at national level that enables clubs to raise funds right when they are required at the commencement of the season. All of our players and committee members currently have tickets for sale. There is a huge range of prizes on offer from a car, sports packages, holiday and retail vouchers etc. Tickets cost just €10 and all proceeds go to our club. We encourage everyone in the area to get involved and support so if you haven't already been asked then please enquire of any player or committee member.
