Happy New Year
We want to take this opportunity to wish all of our members and everyone in the community a happy, peaceful and healthy new year.
Scór na nÓg
A busy weekend approaches us in this first week of 2019 as our club takes part in the county final of the table quiz on Friday evening in Streamstown, followed quickly by Jemma Seery representing our club and county in the Leinster final of the solo-singing competition on Sunday afternoon in the Wexford Opera House. Our table quiz team, consisting of Erin Heeney, Darragh Seery, Peter and Philip Reynolds, are the reigning county champions and under the watchful stewardship of Shane Heraty, they are hoping to retain their title on Friday night but they will undoubtedly have to be at their best to win as the competition improves year on year. Jemma is back in the Leinster final for the second consecutive year and we have no doubt that she will do club and county proud again. Best of luck to all at the weekend.
National Club Draw
It's that time of year again where the club takes part in the annual national club draw competition. This is a great initiative by the GAA at national level that enables clubs to raise funds right when they are required at the commencement of the season. All of our players and committee members currently have tickets for sale. There is a huge range of prizes on offer from a car, sports packages, holiday and retail vouchers etc. Tickets cost just €10 and all proceeds go to our club. We encourage everyone in the area to get involved and support so if you haven't already been asked then please enquire of any player or committee member.
Last Man Standing Competition
We are presently running a last man standing competition for the upcoming national football leagues. This is a very straight forward competition to enter where you just have to pick one team as a winner from each of the seven rounds. Costs just €10 to enter and entry forms are available from Mark King, Darren Rigney or you can print directly from our Facebook page.
The winning numbers from the last draw held on December 18th were 2, 9, 12 and 27. There was no match 3 winner and next weeks stands at a whopping €11,100. Be in with your chance to win a lotto money in 2019 for just €2!
The Bodhrán to Re-Open
We received the great news right at the start of 2019 that our local pub, The Bodhrán, is to open under new management later this month. An official opening night for your diary of Friday 25th January has been notified, however, we have been informed since that there will an "unofficial" opening on Friday 18th January when the Macra Club will hold their annual table quiz at 21:30. This will be followed on the evening by the Personality interviews for the regional finals and MC for the evening will be the inimitable Mick Heeney! After being closed for the last number of months, this indeed is very welcome news for the area and hopefully we will have many the great night to look forward to in The Bodhrán in the year ahead.
Lights are on between 19:30 and 21:30 on Tuesday and Friday evenings for members who want to get out and fit in January.
Well done to Westmeath senior footballers and Tommy McDaniel on their recent performances in the O'Byrne cup competition, particularly their win on Sunday over Kildare in The Downs that sees them qualify for the semi-final where they will play Longford.
