AGM
Our AGM takes place in the GP Room of Scoil an Chlochair next Sunday, December 16 at 7pm. All club members are requested to attend.
What might have been...
Young Ireland's Leinster club JFC triumph last Saturday didn't go unnoticed to any of us here in Kilbeggan. Six weeks ago, the Dundalk club beat us by three points in the first round of the provincial championship in The Downs. It was a game we could have and should have won. They subsequently defeated Annanough (Laois) and Tullogher-Rosbercon (Kilkenny) before accounting for St Brigid's of Offaly in last weekend's final in Drogheda.
Fair play to Young Ireland's on their great achievement, but given how close we were to beating them, it's hard not to feel that it was a missed opportunity for us. Thankfully, it was the only regret from what was an otherwise brilliant year for our club.
Westmeath minors
Best wishes to Damien McLoughlin and Joe Giles - both former Kilbeggan managers - on their appointments as Westmeath minor football selector and manager respectively. Joe was over us when we were pushing hard for an intermediate title a decade ago, while Damien managed us to JFC honours in 2012 and was a selector when we regained the Hugh Daniels Cup this year.
All-Ireland final heartbreak for Fiona
Commiserations to former Kilbeggan ladies player Fiona Claffey who, despite scoring a wonderful individual goal, couldn't save Foxrock-Cabinteely from defeat in last Saturday's All-Ireland senior club final against Cork's Mourneabbey at Parnell Park.
Lotto
Last week's lucky numbers were 9, 16, 18 and 25. No Match 3 winners; Una Smith and Enda Fox were the draw winners. This week's draw takes place in McNamara's with the jackpot standing at €15,000. Tickets, costing €2, can be purchased locally. Thank you for your continued support.
