Book Launch

We are launching the much anticipated club book on this Saturday 24th of November in the clubhouse at 8pm. The book captures the entire history of The Downs GAA right back to its foundation in 1893, with some very interesting exhibits featuring throughout. GAA Director General, Tom Ryan, will be our special guest and we are inviting all our current and past members to join us on the night. The successful division 3 side of 2018 will also be presented with their league medals on the night.

Walkway

The walkway lights will now be on from dusk to 22:30 daily for all existing and new members, for a safe place to walk over the winter months.

U20

The U20 lads bowed of the championship at the semi final stage following a 2 point defeat to Athlone at Kevin Molloy Park on Saturday afternoon last. Trailing by 3 at the break 0-6 to 0-3, we goaled early in the second half to level the game. But despite the best efforts of our young team we just couldn’t get ahead and 2 second half goals for the visitors secured the spoils on a final score line of 2-9 to 1-10. Good luck to Athlone in the final v Rosemount Castledaly. Team: Trevor Martin, Keith Carroll, Conor Gavin, Liam Faulkner, Paul Lynam, Oisin Murphy, Eanna Burke, Jonathan Lynam, Joseph Moran, Ciarán Nolan, Dylan Carroll, Philip Martin, Donal Coughlan, Kevin O’Sullivan, Jack Carroll. Subs: Liam Moran, Stephen Wynne, Oisin Raleigh, Darragh Monaghan, Matthew Cunningham.

Scór na nÓg

The first semi final of  Westmeath  Scór na nÓg took place in Milltown on Sunday last with the second Semi Final taking place this Sunday in Delvin at 2pm. Best of luck to all competitors and why not go along to support these very talented young people and enjoy an afternoon of traditional entertainment. All qualifiers go through to the County Final in Ballymore on Sunday Dec 2nd at 2pm.

Ladies Football:

Semi Final - Division 1 Minor Girls Football Championship

Final Score The Downs 5-7 Killucan 2-6

After a tough number of group games this Down’s Minor team finally managed to reach some of their potential. We have a small squad and with some girls unavailable for this knock out game it was great to see the team settle into the match as quickly as they did with an opening goal straight from the throw in.

As our girls will confirm there is never an easy game when you play against an experienced team such as Killucan and this occasion proved to be no different. Although The Downs were leading 4-3 to 1-2 at half time you can never wright off this opposition and true to from Killucan started the 2nd half with a well taken goal.

When it gets to a knockout stage you need everyone to step up to the mark in every position and this our girls did. Our back line dealt effectively with continuous attacks from a fired up Killucan team.  The Downs have ability all over the pitch and from midfield through to our full forward line the spread of scores and teamwork to produce these was great to see. Now awaiting County Board confirmation of Final date & time.

Team on the day – Grace O Sullivan, Aine McManus, Jane Holton, Katie Moore, Roisin Murray, Lucy Power, Caoimhe Monaghan, Sheila McGrath, Megan Dowdall, Olivia Glynn, Ciara Faulkner, Katie Daly, Britney McNamee, Francesca Walsh, Rosaleen Daly, Lauren Guilfoyle, Gemma Faulkner
