Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Notes

November 19, 2018

AGM Time

Mullingar Shamrocks AGM will take place in The Clubhouse in Springfield on Saturday next, 24 November  at 7.30.

Saturday night is opportunity night to outline your visions for the future development of the club as we review what has been a great year for the club at many levels. If you feel you have something to offer the club at officer or executive level then we are waiting in anticipation. Don’t be shy about putting your names or views forward.

The Flanagan Cup on tour

Thanks to the cooperation of the principals and staff of the various schools concerned Wednesday was  a wonderful morning of schools' visitation that began in St Colmcille's National School in Gainstown.

Dónal, Kieran and James were warmly welcomed by staff and students with lots of photo opportunities for the boys and girls many of them wearing their Mullingar Shamrocks colours to honour the occasion. And then it was back to Mullingar to the Presentation Junior School where Dónal and Kieran visited several classrooms with the most coveted trophy in the Westmeath GAA world.  And the pupils had prepared a special card of congratulations to honour the visit - a lovely gesture and one that was greatly appreciated.

The final visit was made to St Kenny's National School, Kilpatrick deep in the heart of Shandonagh territory but the welcome for the 'Big Bears' of Westmeath football was equally great as the Mullingar Shamrocks students had their moment of glory. Kieran Gavin was joined on this visit by Gary Corroon and Davy Coyne who greeted us with the news that the knee injury he sustained in training prior to the county final was freshly diagnosed as the dreaded torn cruciate ... and we send our best wishes to Davy for a speedy recovery to full fitness. Despite its obvious injury the Flanagan Cup was still fit enough to travel and on Friday accompanied by Gary, Davy and Eamonn  stopped off for a visit to the Hillside Pre-School.

Thank You

The Mullingar Shamrocks Club and in particular our Underage Section would like to sincerely thank the Principals and Staff of all the Primary Schools in the Mullingar area for their courtesy and welcome to the members of our Senior Football Squad over the last two weeks when they visited the children with the Flanagan Cup following our crowning as Westmeath Senior Football Champions for 2018.

It was heartening to see in all the schools, the large number of boys and girls that are participating in GAA activities with a number of clubs in the area.We hope that our visits to the various schools will encourage many more boys and girls who are not presently participating in Gaelic football to consider taking up the sport in the coming months.

Kilmacud Crokes hosted

On Saturday morning, we hosted the Under-14 team of Kilmacud Crokes in Springfield who were on their end of season weekend tour of Westmeath.

Congrats Rachel and Kieran

The Mullingar Shamrocks members, friends and supporters send their hearties congratulations to Kieran Gavin and Rachel Tully on their engagement.
