JFC ‘B’ v Tang

Our second team made an early exit from the junior football ‘B’ championship after succumbing to Tang on a 3-5 to 2-12 scoreline in Tang last Sunday morning.

We had 22 players, including eight of the team that started last month’s JFC final win over Ballynacargy, togged out for this first round clash which was played in perfect conditions. However, a sluggish first half performance, at the end of which were trailed by 1-3 to 2-7, ultimately proved our undoing.

Whatever joint-managers Alan Fennell and Shaun Pidgeon said at half-time seemed to have the desired effect as we roared back to within a point of Tang with five minutes remaining. But the hosts weathered the storm and scored three late points to put the game beyond us.

Team: Thomas Barrett; Ryan Coughlan, Brendan McMahon, Martin Ward; Darragh Coffey, James Fox, Colin Draper; Dean Fitzgerald (1-1), Mel Kiernan; Rory O’Neill, Kevin Smith (0-1), Keith Corcoran; Diarmuid Egan, Fergal Fox (1-0), Aaron McNamee (0-3). Subs: Emmet Dalton (1-0), Dylan Maloney, Finbarr Coffey, Warren Maher, Tadhg O’Gorman, James Claffey and Luke McNamee.

Scor na nOg success

Our first full year back in Scor na nOg has already surpassed all expectations thanks to the brilliant performances of our four acts in last Sunday’s county semi-final at a packed Milltown Community Centre.

The hard work and practice put in over the past number of weeks paid off spectacularly as three of the acts – Thomas Wrafter in Solo Singing, Tadhg McNamee, Conor Wrafter, John Teehan, Amy Wrafter and Lisa Coffey in the Ballad Group and Conor and Thomas Wrafter in Instrumental Music – qualified for the county final in Ballymore on December 2. And not forgetting Emily-Rose Scally who gave an excellent account of herself in the Recitation in the face of very strong competition. Emily-Rose scored very highly and was desperately unlucky not to go through.

It’s off to Delvin next Sunday at 2pm for the second county semi-final where we’ll be represented by Grace McNamee in the Recitation and Thomas Wrafter, Grace McNamee, Ava Rochford, Aideen Teehan and Brendan Egan in the Ballad Group. Here’s hoping there’s more success to come and that our acts receive fantastic support once again.
