Hard luck to the U12 lads, who narrowly lost out in the Jim McHugh plate final. A competition hosted by Garrycastle. The game was played under lights against St. Manchen Gaels (Offaly) last Saturday evening. The sides were all square at the break. The Downs then pushed into a four point lead before St Machen’s responded to go level and then take the lead themselves. Our lads gave everything to try and get back on level terms but were unfortunately unable to do so. Well done to all the lads they can be very proud of their efforts. Thanks to Garrycastle on an excellent tournament.

U17 lads have reached this year’s county final following a hard fought win over neighbours Killucan. The lads held a three point lead at half time but our opponents fought back and force the game to extra time. Our lads were able to lift their performance to another level to pull away to record a 1-14 to 2-09 victory. The county final will be the curtain raiser to the senior decider on the 21st of October.

U20 Championship starts this weekend

Flood Lights
On Friday last, former chairperson Joe Burke was our guest of honour to turn on the recently installed floodlights. We would like to thank all those involved in the completion of this project particularly development officer Tommy Kelly, Gordan Mitchell, PST Sport Surfaces, Electric Skyline and Faulkner Sheds. The walkway lights will now be on from dusk to 22:30 daily for all existing and new members.

Coffee Morning
The Downs senior citizens group wish to thank everyone who supported the coffee morning last Saturday.
