Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

Big week in JFC

It's a big week in the JFC with two games taking place in the space of five days.

On Tuesday evening, we face Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall in a repeat of the 2016 JFC final. The game has an unusually late throw-in time (8.30pm) at TEG Cusack Park and fading light could be an issue if it's a wet or overcast evening. Finea enjoyed a big win over St. Joseph's in the first round and we'll need to be at our best if we're to bounce back from our opening round loss to Ballynacargy at the same venue a few weeks ago.

There will be a quick turnaround to our next JFC game against St. Joseph's in Moate next Sunday at 7pm. Our neighbours provided us with a stiff challenge in last year's JFC quarter-final and will be buoyed by their All-County League Division 6A victory over us last week.

Divisioin 6A v St. Joseph's

Our second team's hopes of securing promotion from Division 6A of the All-County League were all but ended last Tuesday evening in Kilbeggan when St. Joseph's registered a comfortable 2-16 to 0-11 victory.

With up to 10 players unavailable for various reasons, we were always going to be up against it and the result was never in much doubt after midfielder Wayne McCormack bagged two first half goals to help the visitors to a 2-7 to 0-3 interval lead. We were most competitive after the restart, but St. Joseph's weren't to be denied.

Michael Dempsey launches TURAS in Kilbeggan

All-Ireland-winning Kilkenny hurling trainer Michael Dempsey visited St. James' Park last Thursday evening to brief our underage coaches on the new Leinster GAA TURAS programme - a coach and player development journey. He also spoke to our junior players and management afterwards.

Summer Camp

Juvenile coaching continues this Thursday at 6pm when registration forms for our Summer Camp will still be accepted.

This year's Camp takes place on Thursday and Friday, August 16 and 17 from 10am to 2pm, followed by mini games, a family fun day and a BBQ from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, August 18. The Camp is open to Kilbeggan primary school boys and girls between the ages of four and 13, and costs €20 per child (including a training top and BBQ).

Lotto

Last week's lucky numbers were 14, 24, 26 and 28. Frank Larrigy was the only Match 3 winner. This week's draw will take place in Larrigy's with the jackpot standing at €15,000. Tickets, costing €2, can be bought from local shops and help us to meet the running costs of our club. Thank you for your continued support.
