This Saturday, 23rd June, promises to be a very memorable day in the history of our club as we gather, along with many of our neighbouring clubs, to mark the official opening and dedication of our Gym and Meeting Room facilities to our former footballer and life-long friend, Eoin Miller.
Eoin, who sadly passed away in November, was a lifelong member of our club and was central to many of our successes on and off the field. We hope that this dedication of our new sports and fitness centre to Eoin is a fitting tribute to the big man. Eoin was always one step ahead of most. Ever before strength and conditioning became a staple of the club game, Eoin had established a gym many years ago in one of the rooms in our old building. Over time, he had acquired various pieces of equipment, developed training plans, gym rules, instructions for using equipment etc. No doubt, Eoin would be very proud of the facilities we are officially opening on Saturday!
The day will kick off at 12:00 midday with a seven-a-side tournament comprising of eight teams who will battle it out for the Eoin Miller Memorial Trophy. Tyrrellspass, St. Malachy's, Kilbeggan Shamrocks, Loughnavalley, St. Joseph's, Shandonagh, Rosemount and ourselves will go head to head in round robin games in two groups with the top two teams in each group contesting the semi-finals.
In between the group games and the semi-finals, at 15:00, we will have the blessing and official dedication of our facilities. The semi-finals will then follow and the final of the tournament will take place at 16:00, followed by presentation of trophy and medals. There will be a BBQ and refreshments throughout the day.
We hope that you will come along on this very special occasion for our club and help us to remember and celebrate Eoin.
