Rosemount players and supporters celebrate after winning the Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé.

Rosemount became the first Westmeath winners of the Dermot Earley senior men's cup at the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé yesterday.

Over 1,200 players representing teams from South Korea, Germany, the UK and 12 counties from the four provinces of Ireland competed in the annual tournament which took place in over 20 different venues across the Dingle Peninsula at the weekend. The late Páidí Ó Sé famously managed Westmeath to their first Leinster SFC title in 2004 and would have been delighted to see Rosemount - the club of double All Star defender John Keane - win the tournament at their first attempt.

The black and ambers defeated Milltown-Castlemaine in the semi-final before beating another Kerry side, Dingle, by a point in the final after extra-time. Lorcan Daly was the hero for the winners after kicking the winning point with his left foot.

"We would like to thank Padraig Ó Sé and his family who inviting us down to take part , as well as our own committee and supporters who made this such a  great weekend away for everyone," a spokesperson for Rosemount said.
