Westmeath stalls on new age grades

January 14, 2018

Some Westmeath clubs want to retain the traditional U12, 14, 16 and minor grades.

Westmeath has yet to decide on whether to accept proposals to change its age grades for 2018.

Ten of Leinster's 12 counties have moved to U11, 13, 15 and 17 in line with the changes at inter-county level, but a number of Westmeath clubs want to retain the traditional U12, 14, 16 and minor grades.

The matter was discussed at a county board meeting this week, but a decision was deferred until January 31. Louth also have yet to vote on the proposals, which are being strongly recommended by Croke Park.
