Minor County Champions 2017
Now that the dust has settled on our fantastic minor championship win, there are a few people the club would like to thank for playing a role in this victory over St. Lomans on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-8. Firstly to all the parents and supporters who supported the lads on the big day and in the earlier rounds; to Padraig O'Rourke and the senior board, and Fergal O'Toole and David O'Connell and the minor board for all their help throughout the year; to our physio James Joyce for having the lads prepared for all their championship games; thanks to Rohan Transport for their efficient service all year; to all the mentors who helped develop these young players over the years (Dobsey Prendergast, Amby Fogarty, the late David Allen, Joe Temple, Niall Cleary, Paul Bannon, Andy Lynam - apologies if there is anyone left out!). Winning the minor championship is just reward for the huge work being put in at underage in the club over the last number of years. Without the help of many volunteers this would not have been possible and each one played a part in this win. Thanks also to the senior management panel and players who were very welcoming to these lads to join in training throughout the year this helped their physical development and game management which were very much evident in winning close championship games.  Thanks to the management team of Eoin Jordan, Fergal Murray and Eamon Martin who had the lads well prepared all year and left no stone unturned in their pursuit of victory. And lastly to the players themselves. The lads showed huge commitment to the club this year and deserve all the plaudits for this fantastic victory and bringing to an end a 24 year famine without a minor Division 1 title coming to Aras Chiarain. This is a huge shot in the arm for the club and the lads over age for minor next year join a panel of junior and senior players who are hell bent on bringing an Flanagan cup back to Athlone in the not too distant future.

Finally thanks to our sponsors this year: County Photos, The Olive Bar, The Creggan Court Hotel, Supermac's, Cunningham's Pharmacy, Boland's Dentist, Kilroy Tyres, The Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Downes & Sons Auctioneers, Nuts Corner, Marist College GAA, Val Beaumont, Permanent TSB, The Piano Bar, Niall G Lynch Insurance Brokers, McDonald's, Byrne Carolan Cunningham Solicitors.
