Whelan, Sean

September 30, 2007
With feelings of great sadness we write of the much regretted passing of at his residence last week of Sean Whelan, Kilcooney, Ballinamult who was widely known through the county and beyond and who was held in the highest esteem by all. A man of gentle and good-humoured disposition, he worked tirelessly in many roles for his native parish and county and served the organisation admirably at Club level with St. Mary's / Sliabh gCua and also at County level. As well as his farming interests, Sean also carried on a thriving auctioneering business and was held in the highest esteem for his honesty and forthrightness in all his dealings. His removal from the Kiely Funeral Home and arrival in his native Touraneena, as well as his obsequies the following day were attended by huge concourse, a testament to his popularity throughout his native county. He will be greatly missed and mourned by his sorrowing wife Annette, his sons John, Tom Peter and David; daughters Catherine, Margaret and Elizabeth; sister Kathleen Hallinan (Clonmel); daughters-in-law Asa, Mary, Maeve, and Cliona; sons-in-law David Gleeson, Liam Murphy and Jan Tierney; brother-in-law Damien Nugent, as well as his grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends.
