Duggan, Betty

January 12, 2007
The late Betty Duggan The sad news of the death of Betty Duggan (nee Bowers) reached Portlaw before Christmas. Betty died following a very short illness. Betty, a former employee of Irish Tanners, lived in Portlaw until her marriage to Willie Duggan of Rathgormack. Betty and Willie emigrated to London in the sixties where she lived until her untimely death. She was a quiet lady with a friendly manner, a smile and a word for all; she loved to dance and enjoyed her game of bingo. Betty was heavily involved in St. Annes GAA club in London where her two sons, Mark and Simon, and her husband, Willie, were also members. She was a member of the Bowers family, sister to Kenny and Victor. Her remains were removed from Walsh's Funeral Home, Carrick, to the Holy Trinity Church, Portlaw, last Sunday and were received by Rev George Cliffe, assisted by Victor and Leslie Bowers. One of the readings was by her granddaughter, Vicky, and her son, Simon. At the conclusion of the service, her son, Mark, spoke lovingly about his mother and her love for Portlaw. Her remains were taken to Rathgormack for burial, where Fr. Curran officiated, assisted by Fr. Ned Hassett and Rev. George Cliffe. She is survived by her husband, Willie; sons, Mark and Simon; daughter, Selina; brother, Kenny and Victor, sisters, Jean, Dorothy, Sylla and Callie; grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces.
