Galvin, Nellie

November 19, 2006
The late Nellie Galvin Another great GAA stalwart in the person of Nellie Galvin of Portlaw answered the final call leaving a void within the tannery town community that won't be easily filled. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Willie, one of the all time greats off Waterford hurling and a sincere friend. She was a lady of immense charm and personality, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a person it was a privilege to have known and befriended. Nellie was, of course, mother of John Galvin, Waterford's first hurling All Star and one of the truly great players of his generation. Her grandson Eoin is now carrying on the family tradition sporting the blue and gold of his beloved Portlaw in the same proud way his father and grandfather before him did. The GAA presence on the occasion was significant. Just indeed as it should be in honour of "one of their own". To John and the entire Galvin family the sympathy is very sincerely extended.
