August 04, 2006
The late Michael Veale It is with feelings of great sadness we record the death of Michael "Dyke" Veale, Carrick Road, Leamybrien, which occurred on the 26th July, 2006, at Waterford Regional Hospital. "Dyke" as he is affectionately known to his many friends, was born on 10th August, 1915, and lived all his life in Leamybrien. He worked with Waterford Co. Council, first as a labourer and in his latter years as an overseer. He was a staunch supporter if the Fianna Fail party and took a keen interest in all things political right up to the end. Michael enjoyed the simple things in life, dancing, card playing, storytelling and fishing, but his lifelong passion was football. He played with the Mountain Rovers team, Rathgormack, but his pride and passion was in wearing the green and gold jersey of Kilrossanty which was his life, and with his team won many county medals. Following rosary on Friday 28th July, 2006 his remains were removed from WRH to St Bridgid's Church, Kilrossfanty, followed by a large gathering of friends and relatives. Members of the Kilrossanty football club carried his coffin the final 500 yards to the church, while members of Fianna Fail formed a guard of honour as the remains were received and blessed by Fr Delaney, PP. The funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Delaney, assisted by Fr Brendan Crowley and Fr Michael Enright. The lessons were read by Mary Mears (granddaughter) and Marian Dempsey (niece). Prayers of the faithful were read by David Mears (grandson), Emma Power (granddaughter), Bernadette Veale (granddaughter), Eibhlis Watkins (grandniece) and Jimmy Veale (nephew). The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Katie Power (granddaughter), Denise Smith (grandniece), Joey Veale (grandson), Michael Veale (grandnephew), Breda Prendergast (niece) and Mandy Veale (granddaughter). The Kilrossanty /Few choir rendered some beautiful hymns during Mass and Mora Walsh gave a beautiful rendition of Comeragh's Rugged Hills, one of his favourite tunes during the reflection, after which Pat Whyte, on behalf of Kilrossanty football club, paid a fitting tribute to Michael for his years of dedication to the club. In the adjoining cemetery following prayers and final prayers and final blessing, Michael "Dyke" Veale was laid to rest with full view of the Comeragh Mountains which he loved so dearly. The chief mourners were Bridget (wife); Jimmy and Tommy (sons); Anne, Cait, Mary and Josie (daughters); Mary Donovan (sister); his grandchildren, nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law and sons-in-law.
