Fitzgerald, Tom

June 23, 2006
The late Tom Fitzgerald 2006 saw the passing of the De La Salle honoury club vice-president, Tom Fitzgerald. Tom was a native of Croom in County Limerick and when he joined the army before the war he was posted to Waterford where he made his home. He was a talented sportsman and won a county senior hurling medal with the Army team and two more with Erins Own. Through his friendship with Billy Jones and the late John (Baulkie) Power he joined De La Salle and he went on to give a long service to our club as an officer and board delegate. He represented Waterford both as a player and selector in senior and hurling. It is fair to say that Tom, almost single handedly, kept football alive in the club in the late 1980s. He was a selector when we were crowned county junior football champions in 1993 and when we won the east intermediate football title for the first time in 1996. Fittingly there was a large contingent of De La Salle members past and present at his removal and funeral. We extend our sympathy to his wife, Cis, and to his family. Ar dheis De go raibh se.
