Patrick Lawlor It is with deep and sincere regret that we record the tragic death of Patie Lawlor, late of Hillside Crescent, Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford, which took place in Thursday, January 26, 2006. His untimely death represents a great loss to his community and his colleagues. The greatest loss of all is to his family and many saddened relations and friends. Well known, Patie was held in high esteem and much respected. A native of Kilmacthomas, one of a family of thirteen children, ten boys and three girls to Patrick and Mary Lawlor, of Walshe's Place. Patie was a valued employee of Roadstone, Carroll's Cross, for almost thirty five years, having previously been employed by Flahavans and Kilmeaden Cheese factory. Having come from a large family, Patie had a great sense of family values. He was a great provider and his family needs were always foremost in his mind. Of a very outgoing nature and warm personality, Patie had a wide circle of friends, having developed many long term friendships over the years. His sense of humour and love of the 'craic' made him very popular both within the community of Kilmacthomas and beyond. One of his most endearing qualities was his obliging nature and his willingness to lend a helping hand to others. He was an active member of Kilmacthomas GAA Club. Patie loved his native Kilmacthomas and he was passionate supporter of both Kilmacthomas and Waterford GAA teams, travelling near and far to matches. He also served eight years with the local fire service. Removal of remains took place on Saturday evening, January 28, from Waterford Regional Hospital to All Saints Church, Newtown, where guards of honour were provided by members of the fire service, Kilmacthomas GAA club and Patie's colleagues from Roadstone. Patie's coffin, draped in a Kilmacthomas GAA jersey, was led to the church by lone piper, Martin Fitzgerald, his colleague and friend. Funeral Mass on Sunday morning was celebrated by family friend, Fr. Liam Holmes. He was assisted by Fr. Brendan Crowley, PP, Kilmacthomas; Fr. Cornelius Kelleher, PP, Touraneena and The Nire; Fr. Gareth Desmond, CC, Tramore, and Fr. Tom Rogers, CC, SS Joseph & Benildus, Waterford. A very large attendance at both the removal and the burial reflected the high esteem in which Patie and his family are held in the community. The readings were shared by nephew, Donny Lawlor, and long-term friend, Padge Doyle. Prayers of the faithful were read by nephew, Pat Lawlor, and nieces, Vicky and Carmel Lawlor, Denise Cantwell and Evelyn Moloney. The offertory gifts of wine and bread were brought to the alter by Patie's sisters, Kathleen Mansfield and Ann-Marie Hallahan, while a Kilmacthomas GAA jersey, a deck of cards and a bowl of soil were brought to the altar by nephews, David and Shane, and niece, Ciara. These gifts symbolised Patie's love of the GAA, his sociable nature and his love of the land. Beautiful music was provided by Mala Raggett. Pat is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Eoin, Michael, Declan and Fergal, daughter, Aoife; mother Mary; grandson, Darragh; brothers, Seamus, Donal, Michael (Patie's twin), Eamonn, Fintan, Joe, John, Peter and Martin; sisters, Maureen, Kathleen and Anne-Marie; daughters-in-law, uncle and aunt and a wide circle of other relatives including nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many friends. Buried alongside his father, Paddy, at Newtown, Patie Lawlor will live on in the memories of the many people who knew and loved him.
