Power, John

The Late John Power Those of us who knew and befriended John "Baukey" Power can consider ourselves the lucky ones. If ever there was a gentleman he was one, and he had long since commanded legendary status before his death. "Baukey" will always be remembered for his monumental contribution to the GAA both on and off the field. With Erins Own he won hurling championship honours, but I suppose for many of us he will be remembered through his subsequent involvement with the De La Salle club. He represented the Stephen Street club on the County Board for more years than I would care to remember, and I have never known a more considerate or constructive club delegate. During my own term as county chairman it was the "Baukey" Powers of this world who made my job relatively easy, and I truly am honoured to have known him as a friend for all those years. He served as a Waterford senior hurling and football selector at different times, but in truth one could never adequately measure his input into the affairs of the GAA in his beloved Decies. To the entire Power family the column and columnist extend sincerest sympathy. Go ndeine Dia trocaire ar a anam dilis. Courtesy of the Waterford N&S 12th March 2005
