Walsh, Maimie

December 13, 2004
ON WHAT was a very sad week for Déise Gaeldom the tragic death of Mary (Maimie) Walsh of Glendallign shocked and saddened not just the entire county but the country as a whole. Maimie was wife of one of the legends of Kilrossanty football, Pa Walsh, who with brothers Tom and Noel were stalwarts in every Kilrossanty and Waterford senior football team for nigh on a generation. The depth of sorrow her death occasioned was reflected in what was the biggest funeral the parish of Kilrossanty has ever seen last weekend. The GAA presence too was formidable, including officials of the county and divisional boards, members of virtually every club, and former GAA president Pat Fannng. At a timelike this words are wholly inadequate to give comfort to Pa, his daughters Karen and Paula, and Maimie's aged mother Mary Whelan, brother Tom, and sisters Martina and Breda. They are an expression of hte genuine solidarity and support that is out there for them. May the sod of Kilrossanty cemetery rest lightly on Maimie. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dilis.
