Hurler of the Year contender Austin Gleeson was delighted to finish his intercounty season in style on Saturday by winning an All-Ireland U21 title with Waterford.

After a year of near misses with the county seniors, the magnificent Gleeson capped his fourth year at U21 level by helping Sean Power's exceptional charges to a devastating victory over Galway at Thurles.

"It's just unbelievable. Seeing the two lads lift the Cup and looking out and seeing all the blue and white. It's up there with last year. It was absolutely remarkable," the inspirational centre back told The Waterford News & Star.

"We said that if we didn't win it would be just a disaster of a year. Three finals and one semi-final and it would be just a horrible year. This makes up for it. It's an unbelievable feeling."
