Half-tonne hurl

The record breaking hurl at ProGAA

ProGAA believe they have the largest hurl in the world on display in their west Belfast store.

The four-metre long, half-tonne hurl is taking pride of place at the Beechmount Avenue store and will be officially listed as the biggest in the world once it has been verified by Guinness World Records.

It was made from ash from a tree in Serbia and cut up in Latvia before being transported to Cork and finished by Paddy Barry from Douglas, who is also working on a one-metre sliothar.

According to The Irish News, ProGAA eventually hope to donate the hurl to the new-look Casement Park, if that development goes ahead.
