Tipperary stepped on the gas after the break to beat Waterford by 1-15 to 1-7 at Fraher Field.

The winners, who will lock horns with Cork next month for a place in this year's Munster final, outscored the hosts by 1-7 to 1-1 in the second half, reeling off 1-6 without reply in the defining first 22 minutes after the restart.

Points from Kevin O'Halloran, Peter Acheson (3), Michael Quinlivan and Brian Fox - with luckless full back Maurice O'Gorman registering an own goal in between (after Quinlivan's fisted effort hit the crossbar and ricocheted to the net on 48 minutes - left eleven points between the teams, 1-14 to 0-6.

Tipp led by eight points to six at the end of a low-quality first half, with George Hannigan on target three times before the break.

Na Deise reeled off the first three scores, with Paul Whyte hitting all three, but Michael Quinlivan had Liam Kearns' men level by the 14th minute. Whyte (free) and Hannigan traded scores, as did Gavin Crotty and Acheson, before Hannigan edged the Premier County ahead for the first time approaching the half-hour, 0-6 to 0-5.

Martin Dunne put two between them and Whyte replied but Colm O'Shaughnessy closed the first-half scoring. After Tipp's strong start to the second half, Whyte's 58th-minute goal raised the hosts' hearts a little and Tommy Prendergast plundered a consolation point for Tom McGlinchey's Qualifier-bound charges.
