Manager Denis Walsh has indicated that Ballygunnner will appeal the red card Philip Mahony picked up in yesterday's Munster club SHC semi-final win over Glen Rovers.

Mahony and opponent Dean Brosnan were both dismissed on straight red cards following a first half melee in front of the stand at Walsh Park. Unless their appeal is successful, Ballygunner will be without the county star for the November 22 final against either Thurles Sarsfields or Na Piarsaigh.

"We'll do everything we can. He is such a fabulous player, I would be very disappointed to see him out of it," former Cork dual star and hurling mananger Walsh told the Irish Daily Star.

"It (the melee) was a serious incident and I felt the referee was going to take serious action. It was only a question of who he was going to pick out. That's the unfortunate side of things. Philip has been marvellous all year and Dean Brosnan is a clean player. I felt that the ref had to do something."

Walsh was delighted with his side's brilliant start to the second half, which yielded 10 unanswered points and ended the game as a contest.

"All year, we haven't been hitting a high spot and that was our high spot. We knew it was in the team," he enthused.

"We said to the players (at half-time) that it was there for them. We played a good, controlled game in the conditions and that was the pleasing thing."
