Brian Cody's Kilkenny players repaid the "trust" he showed in them with a strong second-half showing against Waterford in today's All-Ireland SHC semi-final.

When reflecting on the Cats' six point victory, the victorious manager outlined to RTE's 'The Sunday Game': "It was a real tough game to win. It was a hard game from start to finish.

"We kept getting a couple of points ahead but they kept pulling us back all the time. They're a serious, serious team and we had to play really well to withstand the challenge first of all and then to try and eke out a victory.

"It was just a question of everyone applying themselves and putting in the work right throughout the field from goalkeeper, whose handling was magnificent I thought today, right up to corner-forward, right throughout the field.

"We had chances, we had wides, they had a couple of wides but it was a question of just keeping it going really and trusting the lads out there."

He added: "We opened it up a bit more in the second-half. TJ [Reid] came out the field and it did create a bit more space.

"It's an instinctive game, you have to trust the fellas that are there to use their instinct and I thought we did it very well."
