There was a huge shock in the opening round of the Waterford SFC when Clashmore defeated champions The Nire on Friday night.
The Nire, who contested last year's Munster club final against Kerry's Austin Stacks, succumbed to a 0-13 to 2-8 loss after goals from Jason Seward and Cillian O'Keeffe had given Clashmore a 2-5 to 0-9 interval lead.
Points from Tadhg De Burca, Brian O'Halloran and Paul O'Connor extended the underdogs' advantage on the restart before a late rally by the holders fell just short.
Elsewhere, Gary Hurney hit 3-1 as 2013 champions Ballinacourty powered to a 4-12 to 0-9 win over Rathgormack yesterday. Despite having Shane Ahearne sent off on two yellow cards, Stradbally overcame Gaultier by 3-8 to 2-6, while Kilrossanty were 0-15 to 0-9 winners over Brickey Rangers.
Ardmore edged out De La Salle by 1-10 to 1-9 and An Rinn trumped St. Saviour's on a 1-12 to 1-7 scoreline.
