Michael 'Brick' Walsh lived up to his nickname as he lined out against Wexford on Sunday with two broken ribs.

The long-serving Walsh caused the Model County defence all sorts of trouble with a trypically industrious display on the edge of the square in the promotion decider at Wexford Park and selector Dan Shanahan paid tribute to the Stradbally clubman after he helped Na Deise secure passage to the top flight:

"Brick picked up more ball and laid off more ball - he is a phenomenal man," Shanahan says of his former team-mate in The Irish Daily Star. "He's playing there with a couple of broken ribs and to give the performance he gave it just shows the man that he is.

"He has a young family at home and what he goes through ... but he is a great man and it's a great win for us as we are up in 1A next year."
