What they said ... the hurling weekend in quotes

All smiles as managers Brian Cody of Kilkenny and Eamon O'Shea of Tipperary meet at the end of the NHL game in Thurles. INPHO

"People can write what they want to write, there is no problem, no hassle with that. I've said now what I'm going to say and that's it."

Clare's win over Dublin brought the curtain down on a turbulent week for Davy Fitzgerald.

"The disappointment is that we put ourselves in a position to win the game."

It was an opportunity lost for Ger Cunningham and Dublin.

"I've no idea. Haven't the slightest idea. I don't even consider how many in a row."

Is that the first time Brian Cody has suffered three defeats on the trot as manager of the Cats?

"You'd be hopeful your team keeps the consistency of performance, that was the most pleasing thing."

Eamon O'Shea and the Premier County are looking forward to the knock-out stages.

"We'd be disappointed with the last goal. We'd gone ahead and looked to be in a commanding lead. We'd actually defended it quite well, it was just a loose ball and Cork did very well to finish."

Paudie O'Sullivan's goal five minutes from time was the turning point in Salthill according to Anthony Cunningham.

"This will be a big confidence boost for us. We are a work in progress and we came here with a win in mind as I though we could have won last year rather than drawn."

Brian Whelahan and Offaly ended Limerick's promotion hopes.

"Overall it is just disappointing - I knew there would be twists and turns but I did not see something like that - It was amazing, I am shocked."

Shane Dowling's sending-off baffled Treaty manager TJ Ryan.

"It's great that we go into the last game of the League with an opportunity of going up to Division 1A, particularly against a team who have been up there for many years."

Liam Dunne and Wexford will play host to neighbours Waterford in a winner-takes-all clash next Sunday.

"We took some excellent scores from play and definitely throughout the match we were playing some good hurling, but just as got a hold on the game Wexford would score a goal."

Dunne's Laois counterpart Cheddar Plunkett focussed on the positives.

"When we got the draw for the league we had Wexford, Offaly and Limerick away. On paper, we had the more difficult away games. We're just taking it one game a time."

Derek McGrath watched his side demolish Antrim in Walsh Park.

"It was demoralising and deflating. We just had a chat about it inside there about why and what's changed in four weeks. Down in Wexford, it looked like we were getting off to a good start to the league."

The wheels have fallen off the wagon for Antrim hurling and manager Kevin Ryan.
