McGrath not expecting an easy ride

Derek McGrath has placed his faith in youth to restore Waterford hurling to it's former glory - but he is expecting bumps along the way.

Only Michael 'Brick' Walsh, Kevin Moran, Noel Connors and Brian O'Halloran remain from the team that last won the Munster title in 2010.

Stephen Molumphy, Shane Walsh and Seamus Prendergast have retired while others like Liam Lawlor, Jamie Nagle and Ray Barry were dropped.

Looking to the future, nine of the team that claimed All-Ireland minor hurling glory two years ago now carry the hopes of Deise supporters.

"It's not easy. Those who were left off are all honourable men," McGrath admitted to the Irish Independent.

"But I'm clear in my mind where we want to go.

"People are probably sick of me saying this but there is still more integration to go and there will be bumps along the way.

"I would be confident that by the time our three-year term is up we will be a very competitive force ready for the future."
