The Waterford County Board have received just one nomination from clubs for the senior football manager's job.

Just one nomination has been received to replace Niall Carew and County Secretary Timmy O'Keeffe stressed that some football clubs showed no interest in the future of the game.

The committee appointed to find a successor to the Kildare native now look set to look outside the county for candidates following the alleged lack of interest from the clubs.

The Waterford News & Star quotes O'Keeffe as saying: "Quite clearly, the clubs have no interest whatsoever in football or football managers.

"This board worked really hard two years ago to get a manager for the senior football team. There is a fundamental question as to where we are going in football.

"The clubs clearly have no interest whatsoever and we need to have a discussion about where we want go. Should we go down the same road as Kilkenny and withdraw from the National League?"
