Waterford selector William Maher is adamant that given time the current management team can rebuild the side.

The Munster side's interest in this year's championship came to an abrupt end last Saturday evening at Nowlan Park when Wexford came out on top in their qualifier clash.

It was a heart breaking defeat for Waterford who for long periods looked as though they would win the match, but it was not to be as the Wexford bandwagon roles on,

For Waterford, many questions have been raised as to where next for the county hurlers, but Maher stressed to the Waterford News & Star that the current management team should be kept at the helm.

"You just see where you are. We know where we are now. We are ranked seventh or eighth. That's exactly where we are. It's just about building and moving on," said the Tipperary native.

"Derek is doing a fantastic job with these lads. We are very much in transition as you can see. Fans don't like to hear that word but there are a lot of young players at 18 or 19. Waterford will have a very good team in a year or two."
